Micro-credentials are opportunities to provide learners with professional development acknowledgment for competencies developed throughout their careers.
Micro-credentials for early childhood specialists are now available on CLI Engage! Demonstrate your skills and abilities, known as competencies, to start earning micro-credentials on CLI Engage.
Micro-credentials are:
- Competency-based
- Based on evidence/demonstration of practice
- Scored against a defined rubric
- Personalized and Self-directed
- Research-backed
The micro-credentials are part of an early childhood specialist competency framework that includes competencies that all specialists (including coaches, trainers, and assessors) need to demonstrate to serve the early childhood professionals they support effectively. Each micro-credential is comprised of badges that are linked to specific, demonstrable skills aligned to the competency areas. Badges are earned by following a clearly defined assignment based on a set of cohesive skills.

There are seven categories of competency in our Core Competencies for Coaches. Each competency area will align to a micro-credential on CLI Engage:
- Characteristics of Effective Specialists
- Observation Skills
- Providing Feedback
- Fostering Reflective Thinking
- Demonstration and Articulation
- Supporting Continuous Improvement
The Trainer Micro-Credentials are under development! Currently, we expect to have six micro-credentials, each aligned to the competency areas:
- Adult Learning Theory
- Training Delivery and Methodologies
- Transfer of Learning
- Training Content Development
- Monitoring and Evaluating Training Effectiveness
- Characteristics of Effective Trainers
Support your professional development in core training competencies and continue in your career as an early childhood trainer by completing the Trainer Micro-Credentials. In addition to this program, consider applying to become a Registered Trainer on the Texas Trainer Registry, a statewide system that approves early childhood trainers and their trainings.
