CLI Engage is a comprehensive professional development, assessment, and quality improvement platform for early care and education programs in Texas.
Since 2003, the Children’s Learning Institute (CLI) has been implementing and studying large-scale interventions in early education. In 2014, in partnership with the Texas Education Agency, CLI formed an ambitious idea: to build a cost-effective, digital delivery system that could disseminate early childhood program improvement tools across the state. This innovative e-learning and data utilization platform became known as CLI Engage.
Powerful Technology
When designing CLI Engage, we believed it essential to retain what we know from research is effective in program improvement models; yet we also set out to harness new technology that would deliver our resources in ways that defy the challenges we face in early education.
Our vision–to not only collect data but to interweave its stories with direct connections to practical tools–yields highly targeted support for improving the quality of educational experiences across the widest variety of preschool and early care settings.
Educators, administrators, researchers, and policymakers can now benefit from a state-supported platform that has the potential to deliver countless program improvement tools across Texas.
Practical Tools for the Classroom
CLI Engage supports many forms of digital tools and resources. TSR Online, the first statewide program launched on the platform, includes:
- Interactive professional development courses that track completion and use fun self-assessments to check understanding;
- Simple, playful child progress monitoring measures that capture a child’s progression in skill areas known to predict school readiness;
- Observation and goal-setting tools for advancing quality instructional strategies and learning environments;
- Supplementary activities with video-based demonstrations and connections to progress monitoring.
